"And what’s a Musarnik?" Hannah asked.
"A Musarnik?" The visitor wrinkled his brow and hugged the empty tea glass with his fingers. "A Musarnik is a man who lives the way he thinks he should live."
"Every man lives that way," Slava retorted, and saw a furtive spark flaming in the scholar’s eyes.
His deep glance floated up from an umber distance and his words were measured: "On the contrary! People always complain that they’ve never really understood how to live. But the truth is, they don’t live according to what they understand to be right."
